ABOUT

The CASE Competition is an international, annual real estate competition that provides current graduate student teams an opportunity to compete, showcase their knowledge, and learn from each other through the analysis of a complex real world development site. The CASE is organized and hosted by The MIT Center for Real Estate.

Unlike other competitions, The CASE focuses on real estate acquisition and development underwriting at the asset level. The competition mimics the professional circumstances and assignments that students of real estate finance, construction, planning, and design will encounter in the formal development industry after graduation.

A competition packet that includes important information about a specific development site is distributed to registered teams, consisting of no more than four graduate students each. Teams have ten days to submit a brief concept narrative, a full Excel-based proforma, a presentation, and a final ‘bid price.’ Based on the submissions, a panel of judges then choose twelve teams to travel to compete in live semifinal and final rounds in front of a host of judges and industry professionals.

Bourne out of the MIT Alumni Association of the Center for Real Estate (AACRE), The CASE Competition was created not only to foster comradery of real estate professionals with common interests, but also to provide a platform connecting distinguished young practitioners. Since our inaugural competition in 2009, over 1000 participants from 30 graduate programs have competed for the illustrious Kent Roberts Trophy and ultimate real estate glory. Winners and finalists from previous years can be found below.
